our Story

the road to CREATING the first fully integrated suspension system for bicycles and motorcycles.

“Fabbro” means blacksmith in Italian, so it may not be surprising that the company started as a motorcycle shop specializing in handmade parts and customized bikes. Creator and CEO Terence “T” Musto, a motorcycle enthusiast, started the company in 2009 and quickly realized the need for innovation in the industry to improve the rider experience.

T saw younger riders in the motorcycle aftermarket actively choosing outdated, uncomfortable, rigid motorcycle frames with no rear suspensions because they preferred the streamlined and clean look of the frame; even though more comfortable options with rear suspensions - known as swingarms or softails - existed and were sold by the large manufacturers. The question persisted: why not have one type of frame to bridge the gap between the style riders want and comfort they need? So Fabbro created the Type 57x®.

This patented frame looks similar to a rigid style frame but it also offers comfort similar to a swingarm or softail – it achieves this by integrating the suspension into the frame itself – so riders get the lines of the rigid without the ride of a rigid.

We built and tested a full scale motorcycle prototype on this frame with the vision of having it be the next major suspension platform for American motorcycles. But while doing customer discovery for the motorcycle frame, we noticed something people kept bringing up – bicycles! Bicycle riders expressed a similar pain point with bicycle frames.

See, if you’ve ever been on a motorcycle or bicycle and hit a hard bump, your back will remind you of the importance of rear suspension. But when you add a suspension to the frame of the bike, you lose that clean look that riders love.

Many bicycles today are built on rigid, or hardtail, frames leaving riders with no rear suspension, much like rigid motorcycle frames. So Fabbro decided bicycles were the best first mover for our company. Our plan is to produce and sell both the Fabbro Type 57x bicycle and the Type 57x motorcycle frame in the aftermarket and, ultimately, license the technology to an original equipment manufacturer (OEM). The Type 57x is the suspension technology that will carry both the bicycle and motorcycle industries into the future.
